Cloud (and a bit of Microsoft Azure)

Hi all, I wanted to write something about cloud/azure for long, but time was a constraint for me while working on other things. Today, I finally make the time and I hope you’ll like it. This is my view of the cloud and Microsoft azure and what, again, I think, companies should understand before “moving” to the cloud. To start, what is cloud? Cloud is a concept, and the concept is simple (for me): It is a datacenter, owned by a 3rd party provider, that you trust and where you host your data, not knowing where your data is or who has access to it and you only pay for what you “use”. So let’s transfer this statement to Microsoft Azure. It is a datacenter = Microsoft Azure Owned by a 3rd party = Microsoft You trust and where you host your data = I hope this is yes (well…

old 2015 and new 2016

Hi All, I would like to start this post talking about last year, 2015. 2015 started great, with renewing my MVP award. as you can imagine, this is the 1st email I look for on the 1st day of the year, being part of this community is just something that I cannot explain in works, but if I had to choose one it would be: WOW. 2015 was a crazy year for me, in both professional and personal lives. I had been working as CTO/Principal Consultant (and I also was a non-executive directory) for a company called xinfra, but unfortunately, the owner/director decided to close the company down and, so I decided to take my take the risk and take my own business (RFL Systems) to the next level, instead of working of behalf of other companies. And I hope the RFL Systems brand will only grow this year, with…

Starting discussion: Intune or SCCM

Hi All, I’d like to start this post saying that this is my only opinion and may/may not be the same opinion as Microsoft or any other person and it is based on my experience working on a series companies over the years (from many sectors of the economy and from many countries) So, let’s start. I often get this question, Should we use Microsoft Intune or SCCM? and just few times, they say, should we integrate Intune with SCCM or use it stand alone? Before answering this question, we need to know a bit of the history. And let’s start with SCCM. SCCM born in 1994 as SMS (or System Management Systems) as the same says, it was a system created to manage systems and was created in a 4-6 years update cycle, what I mean by that is that Microsoft release a new version every 4 to 6…

To cloud or not to cloud?

For those that know me, knows that I’m a huge fan of cloud when it makes sense. Be on cloud just to tell people that is on cloud does not make sense and your company is probably losing money. For small companies, be on cloud is always the simplest solution, they don’t need infrastructure, they don’t need to buy anything, so, they don’t need a lot of money to start. With the big push from Microsoft and with its new corporation theme “cloud first mobile first”, many companies are migrating or using some sort of cloud. The benefit exist, how much would cost you to host an exchange server in your company? The license for office proplus? Energy? Server? Backup? etc. And not forgetting, someone to help you with the setup and monthly maintenance. If you get office 365, you get the same for about £15 + vat per person…
